The following videos document the exhibition Ash Island and its Transformations, featuring artists Nicola Hensel, Cherie Johnson, Emma van Leest and Shan Turner-Carroll. The four artists were invited to respond to the natural and cultural significance of Ash Island–presently Kooragang–of the Hunter River, NSW.
The videos document each artist’s practice, their creative process and the development of their ideas for the exhibition, and were first published online through The Lock-Up in 2014 with support by the NSW Government through Arts NSW.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander viewers are advised that the following videos may contain the names, images and voices of deceased persons.
The videos were produced by Lumina Visual and Black Box Pictures; Australian Lepidoptera and their Transformations imagery courtesy of the Australian Museum; ‘Fallen’ track courtesy of Firekites; featuring an excerpt from Within, Cherie Johnson, 2014, audio Assistance by Huw Jones, and special thanks to Aunty Sandra Griffen and Aunty Glenda Simon.
